Well surprisingly what was supposed to be a one time thing has now spawned a little series. So expect more interviews with friends of mine and independent artists I enjoy from Twitter. Now for this time I interviewed the dark, twisted, and lyrical monster that is Adam Es. Read the interview below to learn more about his recently released project and his musical influences. Also we get to see how much of a fool I am when it comes to Hawthorne and how Adam doesn't have a favorite diss track.
Please enjoy!
Many people know you as Adam Es but what is your full name?
A: Adam Sanchez. My alias is a play on my actual name.
Where are you currently located?
A: Lawndale, CA
Did you start from the bottom #Drake?
A: I’m still at the bottom, but I’ve definitely worked hard as fuck with what I got.
Did the streets of Hawthorne turn you into a hardcore thug or a typical suburban teen? How would you say where you live affects you and your music?
A: HAHAHA. Hawthorne isn’t the suburbs, but I didn’t turn out to be a fuck up like some people I use to know. Hawthorne/Lawndale is just a chill place to live so my quality of life has never really been below average, so it affects me well. Where I live affects my music, but I don’t know in what way.
Biggie, Tupac, or Lil B?
A: PRAISE BE TO BASED GOD.
Odd Future or Pro Era?
A: Odd Future over any rap group.
Which rappers and musicians have inspired you the most?
A: Dude, this may be shocking but there’s only been a few rappers to inspire most: Tyler, The Creator, Hodgy Beats and Kanye West.
Who did you listen to while growing up?
A: I listened to Missy Elliot, Lil Wayne, Clipse, Pharrell, and 50 Cent. I was such a big 50 fan. I use to have all of his CDs, real nigga shit. I was also a huge Clipse fan (still am), but my older brother got me into them.
Favorite rap albums?
A: 50 Cent - Curtis, Tyler, The Creator - Bastard, Kanye West whole discography, Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury, Danny Brown - XXX, and Mellowhype - BlackenedWhite.
Favorite diss track?
A: Don’t Have One.
You recently just came out with a project of your own titled Wicked. To some people Wicked might just be music but in your own words how you would define it?
A: Wicked is it’s own world. It lives and breathes inside us all. With each song I want to embody a certain feeling and make small scenes of the overall picture. Wicked to me means our downfall as human beings is a never ending cycle, what we do will always be repeated, but we don’t know if it’s real or not. Like life for instance, we’re alive right now but are we real? Wicked is seriously just one big question mark. I kind of wanted the album to be a tool for everyone to use.
How long did you work on Wicked?
A: Roughly 9 months.
What kind of feedback did you receive on Wicked?
A: People enjoyed the album. For some it was too dark, but they still enjoyed it. People told me what the Wicked means to them which was really cool, because Wicked has so many different perspectives.
Would you say that you have a specific pattern for creating music? If so what is it?
A: I don’t. I hear the instrumental start to write and sooner or later I have a song written.
How do lyrics and concepts come to you?
A: Lyrics kind of just come. Concepts either come mid verse while I’m writing, or before. With the song “Blackkk Lines” i didn’t think of that concept until the end of the first verse.
Which producers would you wish to work with?
A: I want to work with FlyLo; he’s my favorite producer. I also want to work with Pharrell.
Who in the new school of rap currently has your attention?
A: Ratking.
Besides rap what other genres do you want to venture in?
A: I want to make synth-pop, trip-hop, dream-pop, and psychedelic alternative.
Do you follow basic rapper trends like bragging about your Toyota Camry, throwing hundred dollar bills at strip clubs, and eating ass?
A: I’m a broke ass teen out here rappin’.
As being a rapper has anyone stereotyped you or treated you differently?
A: Everyone always asks me to write a song about them, or put them in a song, or freestyle for them. I haven't’ been treated differently though: good or bad.
I understand that you are currently under Teacholics Records. Can you explain what they are and how did you happen to be apart of them?
A: Teaholics Records is record label run by ISSUE and Matthew. It’s really just a collective of dudes who enjoy the fine taste of brewed tea. I became apart of them because I knew Matthew and Matthew knew ISSUE and the rest is “history”.
What do you hope to accomplish with your music?
A: I hope to accomplish VMA and a Grammy. That’s just on the award side of things. But I just want people to connect and see that it’s cool to be weird and that making weird music isn’t weird at all. I want to be the poster boy of experimentation of rap.
A: I wanted to be a chef when I was a child. I also wanted to be a pro skater; I still skate, but I won’t be a pro.
Do you have a funny or a personal story you would like to share?
A: I have a trippy one instead. So I’m with my homies and shit and we’re talking, smoking or whatever and as the day unfolds literally every single thing we were talking about happened.
It was so fucking trippy.
It was so fucking trippy.
Lastly what would like to say to all the readers and fans of yours?
A: Thank you for listening. Fuck your opinion. I love you.
It was a pleasure having you thanks for taking the time out of your day to answer these questions. You gave some great responses and I'm glad to be ending this interview with learning so much more about you.
