Clean Comfort: Interview

For this interview I'll keep the introduction short just by saying this is a wonderful Los Angeles band consisting of five members that was made possible Because The Internet! #GambinoReference

Where is Clean Comfort based?

Squeebs: It's fucking confusing man haha, but basically Fontana, California and San Fernando Valley, which is difficult but makes up for it in a way that me and Piero write really well together despite the distance

Who is currently in the band?

Squeebs: Well as of right now, it's Piero, Jesse, myself, Eddy, and Gerardo Miranda the Fourth

Is there a significance behind the name "Clean Comfort"?

Piero: Thats funny you ask because there's not really any significance behind clean comfort at all  haha. It was way back when Clean Comfort began with only me and Squeebs, and we had just finished our first song to post on our soundcloud (Monday Morning Hangover) and we were there brainstorming for a name for our sound cloud and we had a bunch of things in mind and i said "Clean Comfort" and I don't know, it just stuck to us. It's actually kind of funny now that I think of it

What genre would you classify yourself as?

Squeebs: I don't know people say a bunch of different stuff like "Oh, I get a shoe gaze type Growlers or  Mac DeMarco" and it makes me mad we just like to play whatever comes out.

Piero: Of coarse, we do get inspiration from other artists, I mean isn't that what music or even dreams are made of? Inspiration.

Squeebs: Yeah, you can kinda tell the difference between the songs I write and Piero writes, but its the same style which is really cool! We have a similar Mindset and style. I think we have a good connection.

Who brought the band together? How did the band become what it is now in present day?

Piero: Well before Clean Comfort even came to be, I made horrible rock instrumentals, they were so bad haha, I even sang which was even worse. I would share my links of songs I made and complain how my voice is so bad and how I wish someone sang for me blah blah... Then Squeebs approached me, "Hey I'll sing for you, let's start a band." Or something like that haha, We made some cute songs here and there but then we officially began working on Feminine for 8 or 9 months or something like that, It could've came sooner but Squeebs was a perfectionist and was really picky on the sound. We knew it would almost be impossible to play a live set with only the two of us so we began getting more people in on Clean Comfort and now we got a full band!

Squeebs: Yeah hahaha, it was kind of cool starting like that but I wanted to involve more people to develop a bigger sound and have more input than simply two artist.

Who mostly writes the lyrics?

Squeebs: I'm in charge of all the lyric writing, it's stressful because its so open and out there for people to judge. It took a while for me to get over my nerves of letting people see my personal thoughts and way of thinking, but you gotta give that up to be in a band I guess. Its still hard sometimes when I write because I think "what if people dislike me for what I feel"

Which singers have inspired your lead vocalist?

Squeebs: Vocalist that inspire me are Mike Patton, John Baldwin Grouley, and Casey Crezensco

How important are the words "suck my ass" to the Clean Comfort band?

Piero:  Very, how else will we relate to all our fans with all the trends going on hahaha, we don't keep it too
serious we like to have some jokes here and there.

You guys recently released an EP titled "Feminine". Why did you choose that specific word for the title?

Squeebs: I get a lot of questions from friends and people that like the music about what "FEMININE" means. The truth about it is that I originally wrote Feminine for my brother who is a transsexual and its about  accepting and being comfortable with who you are. There is a lot of allusion to the night life of a trans stripper, even with being heavily edited for the the final version, I thought it would be a cool idea. I actually followed up Feminine with musically and lyrically writing a song for my younger sister, Little Lady is about how she told me how she feels about life. Feminine was such an important song for me to write so I wanted it to be the tittle of our EP.

Which track are you most proud of creating?

Piero: There's so many, but probably the most we were proud of making has to be Little Lady or Fluorescent Hallway. I wrote a lot of tracks on Feminine but those two were my favorite because Squeebs put his input musically, it was fun to get someone else's input on a song for once. It was probably the hardest I worked on musically , and i love lyrical effort put in by Squeebs.
Maybe next time Nardwuar  :(

How soon will we be getting cassettes of Feminine?

Piero: Very soon

Does any band member have a favorite line from the Gettysburg Address? (please don't use google for this)

Gerardo: No.

Besides me who have you dreamed to be interviewed by?

Squeebs: I want to be interviewed by anyone at rolling stone so I can tell them to "SUCK MY ASS" and walk out of the interview.

Lastly what venue in Los Angeles would be your all time favorite to perform at?

Piero: I never really liked HUGE STADIUMS, I like a small cute place like the Echoplex or The Roxy
